Writer of the Ahsoka series, Dave Filoni, has sat down with Empire Magazine to briefly talk about writing the upcoming The Mandalorian spin-off.

In December at the Disney’s Investors Day, Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, announced that Dave Filoni was writing the series, Ahsoka. We haven’t got many official updates from the creative team, but today in a newly released excerpt from the next issue of Empire Magazine, Dave Filoni has provided an update.

Dave Filoni and Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano

Filoni revealed that he’s currently still writing the series and has described the process as “thrilling”. Filoni went on to say, “it’s something you imagine doing for a long time. And then it’s kind of startling when you’re sitting there, and now you have to do it. I thought of this adventure for Ahsoka for a long time, and it’s interesting to see how it’s evolved, years ago I would never have imagined that it was sprung from a branch of a tree that had anything to do with a guy like Din Djarin, or a child that looks like Yoda. It’s a great lesson for me on how, when you have other creatives likes Jon Favreau, they can help lend such dimension and depth to what you’re doing.”

In the excerpt, Empire Magazine says that the series is expected to arrive after the third season of The Mandalorian. Mando is currently in the midst of filming, having started in late September and is scheduled to wrap in March. According to Production Weekly and my own sources, Ahsoka, is set to begin filming in March. My sources added Ahsoka filming will run into the Fall and will release in the Spring of 2023.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo

Recently it was revealed that Natasha Liu Bordizzo had been cast as Sabine Wren in the upcoming series and will star alongside Rosario Dawson in the titular role and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. It’s also been long rumoured that Mena Massoud and Lars Mikkelsen have been cast as Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn. MakingStarWars has also reported that Hera will feature in the series and that the Ghost is being constructed for the series.

The next issue of Empire Magazine releases on November 25th with The Book of Boba Fett featuring on the cover.
