Actor Stellan Skarsgård has revealed that the second season of Andor is set to begin filming sometime this Fall.
Stellan Skarsgård, who is best known starring in high profile films such as Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers Asselmble and Age of Ultron, Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and more recently starred in Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune, and the critically acclaimed HBO series, Chernobyl, sat down for an interview with Dagens Nyheter where he discussed an array of topics including The Simpsons, Dune, Star Wars, and more. Naturally Andor was brought up, and Skarsgård revealed that a second season was set to film in the Fall of 2022.
When talking about his projects of this year including Dune: Part 2, Skarsgård said, “We start with Dune 2 in July and then in the Autumn, it’s time for a second season of the Star Wars series, Andor.” The interview moved on to the first season being shot in the United Kingdom, at a time where the pandemic was raging, and that being a reason it took so long to film, with Skarsgård saying, “I do not know when they will start broadcasting it. It will take some time, so that it does not take too long between season one and season two.”
Late last year I was hearing rumblings of a second season of Andor filming in the Fall of 2022 in the United Kingdom again, but held back on reporting once rumours started swirling that the twelve episodes Andor shot could be split into two six episode seasons. Skarsgård referring to the next season they’re set to film as season two confirms to me that they plan to keep the twelve episodes as one season.
The first season of the Rogue One spin-off began filming in November 2020 after several delays due to Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Identity) stepping in to re-write the series and the global pandemic, with filming concluding in August 2021. My hope this year is just like last that Andor does a lot of on location filming and I can bring you a plethora of set photos, but with a volume now built in the United Kingdom, I will not be surprised to see Andor utilise that more instead of filming in various locations across the United Kingdom.
Since last summer I’ve been reporting that Andor will begin airing in late August or sometime in September, with Disney later confirming in an earnings call that Andor will air sometime between the start of July and before the start of October.
