The third season of The Mandalorian is approaching the end of its production following a late September start, and outside reports of tens of Mandalorian’s appearing in the series, and the spotting of an ice planet, rumours surrounding the season have been pretty tame – that is until today.

According to a new report from MakingStarWars, IG-11 is making a triumphant return in the third season of The Mandalorian, but in a very unexpected way. The report claims that IG-11 will act as a Hulkbuster of sorts to Grogu. The droid will house Grogu in his chest, which is reinforced by beskar, and will speak to our little green friend in a way similar to the AI Jarvis that Tony Stark used in Marvel’s Iron Man movies and gives him data, tells him probability of success, and his assessment of a situation. Grogu will supposedly give commands inside of the droid, and takes out a bunch of Stormtroopers.

How this comes to be is unknown, but the report speculates it could be engineered to some degree by a group of Jawas who were seen scrambling around the droid in the first season of The Mandalorian shortly before Moff Gideon appears with his Darksaber, or that it’s simply a just another IG model. However it’s believed Taika Waititi will return to voice the droid.

Mech Grogu, Hulkbuster Grogu, Gundam Grogu, whatever you want to call this is without question the most unexpected development of The Mandalorian season three I could have ever imagined. It’s sounds bonkers, silly, and epic all at the same time, and I for one cannot wait to see how this is executed on screen, though I fully expect some portion of the fan-base not to be onboard.

I took a poll on my Instagram account, asking fans if they liked or disliked the idea of Hulkbuster Grogu, and as predicted, the divide was pretty even. 51% of fans liked it, and 49 dislikes it. Around 4,000 users voted in the poll.

I’ve been sitting on a few exclusives pertaining to the third season of The Mandalorian for a little while, so expect to see those releasing pretty soon. No release date has been set for The Mandalorian, but it’s rumoured to release at the tail end of this year, or the start of next.
