CinemaCon kicked off this week in Las Vegas and it’s already brought some exciting news for film fans just two days in, but today it appears to have delivered some disappointing news for Star Wars fans.

Disney had their CinemaCon presentation earlier today where they showed off the first twenty minutes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, thirty minutes of Lightyear, debuting footage from Avatar 2: The Way of Water, along with updates from other films releasing in 2022 and 2023. However one noticeable absence was Star Wars: Rogue Squadron which is slated for a December 2023 release. Rogue Squadron and titles part of Disney’s 2023 slate wasn’t expected to have footage shown during the convention, but titles from next year did appear at the end of the showcase mapping out the companies release schedule of 2023, and unfortunately Rogue Squadron was nowhere to be found.

Disney’s 2023 slate featured The Marvels (Feb 2023), The Haunted Mansion (March 2023), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 2023), The Little Mermaid (May 2023), Indiana Jones 5 (June 2023), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania (Jul 2023). Some fans noted other announced Disney films were absent from the 2023 line-up including Snow White and Kingsman: The Blue Blood which are expected to release in the Fall of 2023 along with an unannounced Marvel Studios movie slated for October that year, with some speculating that perhaps Disney purposely left out their Fall and Winter 2023 line-up.

Following the CinemaCon presentation, Disney sent out a newly updated release schedule and Star Wars: Rogue One was still scheduled for December 2023.

Back in November it was reported by THR that Rogue Squadron had been indefinitely delayed due to director Patty Jenkins’ scheduling conflicts and that the film had been removed from Disney and Lucasfilm’s production schedule. Deadline writer, Justin Kroll, later revealed that Wonder Woman 3 would shoot in the Fall of 2023 for an intended 2024 release, thus creating the scheduling conflict for Jenkins who’d be unable to deliver Rogue Squadron within the original timeframe announced.

In February of this year some fans got their hopes up when Disney released their updated release schedule and still had Rogue Squadron planted firmly in its release date of December 2023, though many believed the title remained as Disney did not feel it right to officially announce the delay of Rogue Squadron at that time. Hopefully we get an update on Rogue Squadron and other announced Star Wars movies at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration next month.
