According to various ‘insiders’, Shakira Barrera has been cast in an undisclosed role in the upcoming Ahsoka series for Disney+. The rumour originated recently via DanielRPK’s Patreon page, thus I did not cover it at the time, but yesterday Charles Murphy of Murphy’s Multiverse and Jordan Maison of Cinelinx took to Twitter to reveal they’d heard of the casting too.

Murphy posted a speculation piece that Barrera had been cast in the upcoming Marvel Studios Iron Heart series due to her following various members of the production on Instagram, to which Maison respondedShe’s currently in Ahsoka…” and Murphy promptly followed by responding, “I know. It was her role in Ahsoka that led me to her IG initially”.

Barrera is probably best known for her role in the Netflix series, GLOW, and she’s appeared in well known television series such as Agents of SHIELD, and Shameless. Fans have already began speculating that she’s playing one of the Martinez sisters from Star Wars: The Clone Wars season seven and Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Ahsoka began filming earlier this month and is due to release in 2023. Currently the only confirmed cast members are Rosario Dawson in the titular role and Natasha Liu Bordizzo (The Voyeurs) as fan-favourite Sabine Wren. It’s also been reported that Hayden Christensen will reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker for the series, and that Ivanna Sakhno (The Spy Who Dumped Me), Ray Stevenson (Vikings), and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) have also been cast in the series, with the latter rumoured to be playing Hera Syndulla.
