Amandla Stenberg and Lucasfilm have officially confirmed that Stenberg has been cast and will lead the upcoming Star Wars television series, The Acolyte.
Stenberg was first rumoured to have landed the role back in December and today, the news has finally been confirmed. Stenberg’s casting comes as pre-production on the High Republic era series ramps up ahead of the start of principal photography in October. Recently I exclusively reported that the series is currently in pre-production at Shinfield Studios, Reading and that the series will film at the newly developed studio this October, with filming expected to continue until May.
Taking to Instagram to announce the news, Stenberg wrote the following alongside a series of images, “Next stop: a galaxy far, far away….I am so excited to finally announce I’m joining Star Wars: The Acolyte! Honoured is an understatement. May the force be with you.”
Stenberg is best known for her roles in The Hate U Give, Everything Everything, Dear Evan Hansen and can next be seen in the A24 horror film, Bodies Bodies Bodies alongside Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island), Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Movie Sequel) and Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) which hits cinemas this August. Star Wars: The Acolyte was created by Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) and focuses on the emergence of the darkside during the final days of the High Republic era. No additional writers or stars have been confirmed or even rumoured to be attached to the series at this time, but recently Loki director, Kate Herron, was rumoured to be directing the series or a number of episodes on the series.
