Just last month, Bloomberg, reported that the highly anticipated Knights of the Old Republic Remake being developed by Aspyr Media, and published by the Embracer Group, had been delayed indefinitely following the firing of both the video games art director and design director and an unsuccessful demo presented to Sony Interactive and Lucasfilm. The report added that some developers at Aspyr believed that Saber Interactive, a developer brought on earlier in the year to assist Aspyr Media with development of the remake, could take over development as Aspyr moved on to other projects. Today new comments from Embracer Group seems to back up the initial report.

Though the publisher did not reference Knights of the Old Republic Remake by name, their comments line up with details in the report. CEO of the Embracer Group, Lars Wingefores mentioned that one of their triple a titles had recently shifted studios, “One of the groups triple a projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where it needs to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.”

One of the most interesting lines in the Wingfores statement is that no delays are expected on the title despite the studio transition. In the Bloomberg report it mentions when development first began on the Remake, Aspyr were aiming for a late 2022 release, but I and others have heard within the past year of a 2024 release being a target. In the initial Bloomberg article it also mentions that some developers anticipate the Knights of the Old Republic Remake to release in 2025. Either way, I don’t think fans should expect the title for another two to three years given the circumstances and the fluid nature of game development.
