Two weeks ago it was reported that directing duo, The Daniels, directed an episode of Skeleton Crew, a Star Wars live-action series created by Spider-Man: No Way Home director, Jon Watts, and Chaos Walking writer, Christopher Ford. Watts is set to direct an unspecified number of episodes of the series, I’ve heard at least two, and he’s seems to be keeping good company with the addition of The Daniels who’s latest flick, Everything Everywhere All At Once, swept this years Academy Awards with seven wins. It’s now being reported by One Take News, who broke The Daniels story, that another critically acclaimed director, David Lowery, also helmed an episode of the series.

Lowery is no stranger to the Disney wheelhouse, having previously directing and writing Pete’s Dragon for the media juggernaut and directed the upcoming Disney+ film, Pan and Wendy, which is set for release next month and stars the lead of Skeleton Crew, Jude Law. Other notable work from Lowery includes the critically acclaimed A Ghost Story and 2021’s multi-award winning Green Knight, which is most likely the work he’s best known for as of today.

Lowery is certainly an interesting choice as a director for the series, but one that makes sense and is most certainly a fine addition to the series alongside Watts and the Daniels. Lowery has had experience with directing a younger cast with the upcoming Pan and Wendy, though we don’t know to what result.

Skeleton Crew stars Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore) as a teacher, with the story focusing on a group of children lost in the galaxy trying to find their way back home. The series is inspired by eighties Amblin movies such as The Goonies, and is set during the same time period as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, with creators of those series, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni on board Skeleton Crew as executive producers. Skeleton Crew is slated to release exclusively on Disney+ later this year and you can see the trailer for Lowery’s latest effort, Pan and Wendy below.
