Just last week it was reported by Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast, one day before Star Wars Celebration, that Dave Filoni will be directing an untitled Star Wars movie and that the announcement would take place at Celebration. Of course this turned out to be accurate, and Sneider continues to share reliable and insightful information regarding various Star Wars projects, and has done so once again this week.

The journalist and insider didn’t have much to add to the three movie announcements from Star Wars Celebration which took place last week, but did reveal that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director, James Mangold, will write his Star Wars film, which focuses on the first ever Jedi and the discovery of the force, once he completes work and releases his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, which begins filming this Summer and is expected to be released towards the tail end of 2024. Just a few months ago, Mangold was revealed to be both penning and directing a Swamp Thing movie for DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery, but Sneider revealed that Mangold will focus on his Star Wars movie and tackle that project, before moving on to the Swamp Thing flick.

Unsurprisingly Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie is the furthest out from release, and has had the most little development at this time. It’s great to hear that the Logan director will focus his efforts on his Star Wars project in just a couple of years, and that it’s taking priority over DC Studios Swamp Thing. Given Sneider’s comments, and a report from THR that Rey’s New Jedi Order movie is aiming to release in December 2025, and Dave Filoni’s Mandalorian crossover flick is aiming to release one year later in December 2026, we likely won’t see the fruits of Mangold’s labour until sometime from 2027 to 2029.

James Mangold’s next directorial effort, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, hits cinemas on June 30th.
