Yesterday Disney had their Upfront presentation where they unveiled trailers and release dates for their upcoming TV slate which includes content for Disney+, FX, Hulu and more. During the event Disney announced release dates for highly anticipated new seasons of Loki and Only Murders in the Building, along with new titles such as Echo and Win of Lose, but one thing that did not get a concrete release date was the next Star Wars series, Ahsoka.

Last month at Star Wars Celebration, Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy announced that the Ahsoka series would premiere on an unspecified date in August, which is also noted in the teaser trailer. Disney’s upfront event seemed like an ideal place to announce a premiere date as they announced release dates for series much further out from release such as Loki and Echo, but unfortunately Lucasfilm did not, but they did show those in the room an exclusive behind the scenes video for Ahsoka along with the trailers for The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew which were first shown at Star Wars Celebration.

Just a few hours ago, DisneyMovieInsider.com, an official Disney site, listed Ahsoka for release on August 31st, 2023. Since then the post has been removed entirely. What’s weird about the date is that it falls on a Thursday, a day in which Disney+ typically does not release content as the streamer usually releases new series or films on a Wednesday, but have occasionally dropped content on a Friday. This has led many to speculate that August 31st is simply a placeholder date, which could be accurate as when a placeholder date is given it’s typically either for the start or more commonly – the end of the month. And as mentioned, the day in which that date falls is not a standard Disney+ release day which lends credence to that theory. Personally I believe Ahsoka will release on either August 23rd or August 30th, both Wednesdays – the typical Disney+ release day, with the former allowing the Ahsoka series to end one week before the season two premiere of Loki, and the latter ending Ahsoka two days before the Loki release – a sure fire way to retain Disney+ customers stay subscribed.

Hopefully fans don’t have too long to wait to find out the Ahsoka release date and I’m pretty sure we’ll know it by the end of June.
