Hello there! We’re currently six to seven months away from the release of the Amblin inspired Star Wars television series, Skeleton Crew. The series was created by Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Jon Watts and Chaos Walking’s Christopher Ford, both of which will serve as executive producers on the series alongside The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau and Ahsoka executive producer, Dave Filoni. Not a whole lot is known regarding the upcoming series, but it’s now been revealed just who is writing the series and which episodes.
Before we continue with the news, I’d just like to share that you can now support my work in two ways. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a single tier at this time simply to support my work here. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough of here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!
The writers of the Skeleton Crew series were recently revealed via the Writers Guild of America West’s official website. The page confirms Watts and Ford as creators of the upcoming series as well as revealing the duo wrote six episodes of the eight episode season. Watts and Ford the first four episodes of the series, as well as the the final two episodes – episodes seven and eight. However, neither Watts or Ford are credited as writers of episodes five and six, those episodes have been penned by Myung Joh Wesner. Wesner is likely an unknown to the vast majority of my readers, she is to me, but her past credits includes a Hulu series by the name of Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem, where she wrote the seventh episode of the ten episode series and a Shark thriller film titled The Devils Mouth which was recently being shopped around at Cannes Film Market.
It was announced at Star Wars Celebration that directors of the Jon Watts and Christopher Ford created series include Watts himself as well as The Daniels (Everything, Everywhere, All At Once), David Lowery (Peter Pan and Wendy), and Jake Schreier (Beef). In addition to the directors being announced at the event, we also got confirmation that the series will star Ravi Cabot-Conyers (#BlackAF), Kyriana Kratter (Bunk’d), Ryan Keira Armstrong (Firestarter), Robert Timothy Smith (Mythic Quest), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Tunde Adebimpe (Marriage Story) in addition to the series lead, Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore). As mentioned earlier in the article, Skeleton Crew was inspired by eighties Amblin movies such as The Goonies, and will see a group of children venture out into the galaxy and unfortunately get themselves lost and attempt to make their way back home.
