Disney have announced that a new ‘special look’ at the upcoming Ahsoka series is set to debut sometime this weekend during the ESSENCE Fest Primetime.
Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can now support my work in two ways. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a single tier at this time simply to support my work. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!
Though the Walt Disney Company has confirmed that the Ahsoka series will be present at the ESSENCE Fest, along with various other projects including Haunted Mansion, a Disney movie due to be released next month led by Ahsoka Tano herself, Rosario Dawson, the company has not provided a date and time that the ‘special look’ will be shown. All we know at this time is that the footage will air sometime between 7pm and 11:59pm CT on either Saturday or Sunday during Disney’s virtual showcase.

We don’t know what Disney have in store in regards to the Ahsoka footage, but I’m sure many fans are hoping and speculating about a possible ‘official trailer’ release following April’s teaser. That would be the best outcome, but I’m personally lowering my expectations. I’m leaning more towards a behind the scenes sizzle reel of sorts, as Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, previously unveiled behind the scenes footage of Ahsoka at Disney’s Upfront event last month, with the footage being shown to those exclusively in the room. It’s not unlike Disney to re-use footage used for other events and outings – back in December 2020, Disney showcased a sizzle reel for Obi-Wan Kenobi which featured pieces of concept art and footage of Ewan McGregor and Deborah Chow discussing the series at their Shareholder meeting, which was available to the public, but that reel was held for back. It was later released publicly on Disney+ day in September 2021 on Disney’s streaming service.
So if you’re asking for my opinion, I’m expecting a behind the scenes sizzle reel for the highly anticipated series. Marketing for the Ahsoka release will likely to begin to ramp up towards the tail end of July, and I’m personally not expecting an ‘official trailer’ until that time.
Ahsoka releases exclusives on Disney+, with the first episode slated to release on August 23rd.
