Fans were eagerly anticipating a ‘special look’ at the upcoming live-action Star Wars series, Ahsoka, close to ten days ago and were left disappointed when no footage was released with no comments from Lucasfilm or Disney. After a delay, the footage has finally been officially released.

Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can now follow me on Threads here. Also, you can support my work in two ways. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a single tier at this time simply to support my work. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

On the weekend of July 1st, fans were expecting new footage from the highly anticipated Star Wars Disney+ series, Ahsoka, as Disney had announced that a ‘Special Look’ at the series would be released that weekend at ESSENCE Fest. However the event came and went with fans left disappointed and confused that the ‘special look’ had not been released despite official confirmation that it would. In the days that followed, many social media users speculated that perhaps the footage release was delayed due to the issues that plagued Twitter that day and the week that followed. Without warning a vast number of Twitter users encountered a ‘rate limit exceeded’ message when scrolling on the app, with Twitter owner, Elon Musk, later adding that the social media juggernaut had implemented temporary limits to users of the platform which saw the average non-verified user limited to viewing just six hundred tweets a day and paid Twitter Blue subscribers able to view six thousand tweets a day. Since then both Blue subscribers and non-subscribers have had their view rates raised, but it’s unclear if the limits have been lifted or when they will be.

Following the online speculation, both myself and MakingStarWars.net had heard from separate sources that the release of the footage was delayed due to the unforeseen issues that plagued Twitter on the day the ‘Special Look’ was due to be released. Both outlets understood that the indefinite delay was due to the Twitter issues and neither were informed as to when the footage would be released. Today however and without notice, Disney and Lucasfilm have released what I believe to be the footage planned to be released two weekends ago, which you can watch below.

The ‘Special Look’ itself is exactly what I’ve been preparing fans for. In various reports I’d told readers not to expect an ‘official trailer’ following April’s teaser and that would come later in the month (maybe even later) and that they should expect a behind the scenes featurette on some kind that would likely feature comments from series creator Dave Filoni and series lead, Rosario Dawson. The Journey to Ahsoka release follows Rosario Dawson’s journey from online campaigning to be the live-action version of the fan-favourite character Ahsoka Tano, to the dream becoming a reality. The release doesn’t feature new footage disappointingly, but does include comments from Dawson, Filoni and executive producer Jon Favreau.

Inbetween shots of Star Wars Celebration 2023, behind the scenes action, fan reactions and various Ahsoka cosplayers, comments from Dawson, Filoni and Favreau can be heard throughout. Filoni teases that we’ll follow the journey of a character trained by the greatest Jedi of all time, Anakin Skywalker and that Ahsoka will come into her own during the series in ways we’ve not seen in the past including Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. Rosario Dawson teases the grand scope of the series with Jon Favreau adding that the series still has to maintain a sense of fun, imagination and adventure, with Filoni signing off that it’s been an extraordinary experience bringing this story to life.

Ahsoka releases exclusively on Disney+ on August 23rd.
