The third episode of Ahsoka might be seventeen days away, but the runtime for the episode has already been revealed.
Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!
Last week Cryptic HD Quality shared via X (Twitter) the runtimes for the first two episodes of Ahsoka’s two episode premiere. The user shared that he obtained the information thanks to press screeners being sent out. If you’re unfamiliar with Cryptic, he’s a social media user who often and accurately shares runtimes for a variety of upcoming episodes of TV shows including Star Wars content , Marvel Studios releases, HBO and more.
Cryptic HD Quality has shared that the third episode of Ahsoka, due to be released on August 30th, will have a runtime of 34 minutes and 50 seconds, but without credits included, the runtime is 31 minutes and 50 seconds. The third episode is the shortest of the first three episodes, with episode one coming in at 54 minutes and episode two at 42 minutes, both with credits. Though it’s not mentioned by Cryptic, there’s a good chance that a recap of episode two is included in episode three’s runtime, which will bring the minutes of new content down even further, if this is the case then the episode will likely be closer to 30 to 29 minutes.
I’m sure many fans will feel disappointed with the runtime of episode three, some fans usually kick up a fuss when Star Wars live-action shows receive shorter runtimes and want runtimes to reach closer to the hour mark – perhaps they feel as if they’re being shortchanged. The runtime should come as no real shock as series creator, Dave Filoni, previously revealed that Ahsoka would receive runtimes close to that of The Mandalorian season three, though the third episode of Ahsoka, if Cryptic’s reporting is accurate, is shorter than any episode of The Mandalorian’s third season, with Mando season three’s shortest episode coming in at 35 minutes – one minute longer than Ahsoka episode three.
I say it often, but runtimes do not phase me in the slightest. If the episode calls for an episode to be shorter or longer, then so be it. I believe that forcing an episode to be longer than needs be can seriously impact the pacing of the episode which could impact the quality of the episode overall and the storytelling – same goes for an episode being forced to adhere to a shorter runtime also.
Ahsoka premieres exclusively on Disney+ on August 23rd with a two episode premiere.
