The next high profile video game release set in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars: Outlaws, looks to be delayed until later in 2024 or even into 2025.
Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

Yesterday (Thursday), Ubisoft held its latest earnings call and during which revealed that an upcoming “large game” will not release by the end of this fiscal year (March 31, 2024), and instead will now release sometime within their next fiscal year, which runs from April 1st, 2024 until March 31st, 2025. Though Ubisoft did not specify which title had suffered the delay, it’s believed to be their Star Wars title, Outlaws, which is being worked on by Massive Entertainment.
“The company [Ubisoft] can therefore confirm its announced guidance of strong top line growth and non-IFRS operating income of approximately €400 million, without releasing the other large game it had initially planned to launch during the last quarter of the current fiscal year. The company has decided to launch this other large game in FY2024-25, so as to maximise its value creation.”
The reason many believe that the mystery title suffering a delay is Outlaws is due to a past report from Kotaku from May of this year, where the outlet revealed that Ubisoft was hoping to release Star Wars: Outlaws within its next fiscal year, so before the 1st of April 2024. However, within the same article, it was mentioned by Kotaku that that window of release felt too ambitious according to their sources close to the project, with those sources adding that they didn’t expect the video game to release until Ubisoft’s next fiscal window, April 2024 to March 2025.

Ubisoft had three additional major releases planned to release within this fiscal year at the time of the Kotaku report (May), Assassins Creed: Mirage, which has already been released, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is set to release in December following a delay from last year, with gameplay impressions rumoured to be released next week, and their much delayed pirate adventure title, Skull and Bones. Ubisoft confirmed during their latest earnings call that Skull and Bones had been delayed into the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, meaning it’s set to be released sometime before March 31st, 2024.
Unfortunately it seems all signs point to delay of Outlaws. I know this news may frustrate fans who were looking forward to Outlaws, but a delay will only benefit the quality of the game, and hopefully the developers working on the project.
