The next Star Wars theatrical release, The Mandalorian and Grogu, is set to release on May 22nd, 2026 and is set to begin filming in the near future. Today a new report claims that the movie will begin filming earlier than past reports indicated.

During the latest episode of MakingStarWars’ YouTube show, MSW revealed that according to his sources, The Mandalorian and Grogu is slated to begin filming earlier than what people have been led to believe. MSW revealed that past reports of when Mando was set to begin filming was slightly off the mark and that filming on the next Star Wars movie is set to begin next month in May.

I can’t be specific. I don’t want to out any specific person, source or group involved with the production. I talked to two different cats, both believe that filming is actually going on in May for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu.’ In May there will be filming done. I’m not saying it’s May 1st, I’m not saying it’s May 31st, but it’s somewhere in there that things will be filmed for that specific movie.” – MakingStarWars

Earlier in the year it was reported first by Production Weekly and listed on the FTIA website that filming on The Mandalorian and Grogu was due to begin filming on June 17th. Collider also followed the reports and added that they too had heard filming was due to begin on the reported date. I myself was told the June start and that filming would conclude in October, that the film was due to have four months of filming, with the budget of the film closer to that of one of The Mandalorian TV seasons. In March, one of the stars of the series, Brendan Wayne seemingly confirmed the June start. MakingStarWars addressed the past reports and said:

That was probably the initial start, the if we don’t meet our milestones start date. But it sounds like things are going swell is how it sounds. So we might have a Star Wars movie filming in the next couple of days so-to-speak – within the next month.”

MakingStarWars did not share a specific date, so it might not be that The Mandalorian and Grogu starts filming early in the month, it could even be within the last few days of the month. Typically The Mandalorian seasons begin filming in the last days of September, though sometimes it gets reported that it began filming in October. It’s very much quite possible production was ahead of schedule and plans slightly changed. Either way, cameras on The Mandalorian and Grogu are set to start rolling very soon which means we’re finally one step closer to seeing a new Star Wars movie in theatres.
