Andor confirmed to release this Summer; details on the series revealed

During the Star Wars Vanity Fair piece, Lucasfilm confirmed that the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spin-off series, Andor, is set to be released in late Summer 2022. This lines up with what I’ve personally been reporting since last summer, that Andor would release in August of this year.

Diego Luna revealed to Vanity Fair that he believes Andor is a refugee story as desperate people are fleeing the Empire and says, “It’s the journey of a migrant, that feeling of having to move is behind this story, very profoundly and very strong. That shapes you as a person. It defines you in many ways, and what you are willing to do.” Showrunner Tony Gilroy, who wrote the Bourne trilogy, says “This guy gave his life for the galaxy, right? I mean, he consciously, soberly, without vanity or recognition, sacrificed himself. Who does that? That’s what this first season is about. It’s about him being really revolution-averse, and cynical, and lost, and kind of a mess.”

It’s revealed in the piece that the series opens with the destruction of Cassian’s birth world and follows our hero into adulthood where he realises that he cannot run for the rest of his life. Gilroy adds that we’ll see Cassian’s adopted home will become the base of operations for the majority of the first season, but that we then see a separate planet being ripped apart in a colonial way with the Empire rapidly expanding and wiping out anybody in their path – a path Cassian intends to block by the end of season one.

Lucasfilm and Gilroy reveal that though the series is titled Andor, Mon Mothma, played by Genevieve O’Riley, will have a large role and that her story will run parallel to Cassian’s and that the cast itself is “orchestral” and “Dickensian”.

Andor will be present during Star Wars Celebration on May 26th where we’ll hopefully get new information on the series, but I plan to release an exclusive Andor report later this week, so if you want to keep up-to-date with the latest leaks, news, reputable rumours, and my exclusive reports, then be sure to sign up to my mailing list below.
