The second season of the critically acclaimed Star Wars series, Andor, began filming in November at Pinewood Studios in London, but we’ve yet to see any on location shoots with actors visible. Back in December I posted images of sets being built at Pinewood for season two, and more recently I exclusively broke that Andor had returned to the McLaren Technology Centre to shoot scenes, a location used for the Coruscant Spaceport in season one, and I’ll be able to share more details on that shoot soon. Around the same time it was reported that the Rogue One spin-off series was gearing up to shoot in Valencia, Spain and that the production was in the midst of securing extras for the scenes. The Valencia shoot, if outdoors, was the most likely we’d see various actors attached to the series filming, but eagle eyed fans have spotted the series shooting scenes outside of the Lloyds Building in London.
YouTuber, UnBox PHD, managed to snap some shots and shoot video of a scene between our lead, Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard). The twosome, who are instantly recognisable, are deep in tense conversation in the scene being filmed, which seems to be directed by Ariel Kleiman, the person sporting a black baseball cap, mask and jacket with long dark hair. Kleiman, who’s best known for his work on the hit Showtime series Yellowjackets, is set to direct the first three episodes of Andor’s second season, along with its last three episodes.
Though they did not partake in the scenes being shot between Luna and Skarsgård, supporting cast members Adria Arjona (Bix Caleen), Kyle Soller (Syril Karn) and Denise Gough (Dedra Meero) are all in London for the filming of Andor’s second season.
Just like Andor’s first season, the production is venturing from behind the walls of Pinewood and beginning to take part in on location shoots. For the first season the production took place primarily at Pinewood for around two months before venturing to the huge Little Marlow set which was used as Ferrix and then darted to various spots across England and Scotland. The second season of Andor seems to be following the same timeline, moving beyond the walls of Pinewood following its first couple months of principal photography, and hopefully we’ll be aware of more locations and get to see more pictures and videos of the show in action,
The second and final season of Andor is due to continue filming up until August of this year, and won’t be released until the latter half of next year. Andor is one of two Star Wars productions actively shooting at this moment in time, with the Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) created series, The Acolyte, also filming in the United Kingdom, with a release also expected sometime next year.
