It’s been three years since The Mandalorian spin-off series, The Book of Boba Fett, was released on Disney+. Since that show, the character of Boba Fett has not been seen in any live-action series and there’s been no word on a second season of the Fett series. Now, the actor who plays Boba Fett, Temuera Morrison, has shared a disappointing update for fans hoping to the bounty hunter back in action.
According to Screenrant, who were covering the From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters panel at Fan Expo Chicago, Temuera Morrison confirmed that Boba Fett will not be appearing in the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first Star Wars theatrical release since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is slated to release May 22nd, 2026.
Screenrant wrote that the reason Boba Fett won’t be appearing in the flick directed by Jon Favreau, the creator of both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, is due to the show’s (The Book of Boba Fett) reception, which has impacted the future of the beloved character. Adding that the character has been, “put on the shelf for a little bit.”
The Book of Boba Fett from the outside looking in seemed to perform well for Disney+, with the series reaching an average of twelve million views per Nielsen released figures, the third highest average of any live-action series, sitting behind The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, where the series seemed to stubble is with critics and audiences reviews, as The Book of Boba Fett only has a 66% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a ‘rotten’ audience score rating on 49%. The highest rated episodes of the series were those that didn’t focus on the titular character, but instead Din Djarin and Luke Skywalker (episodes five and six) and the series finale garnered the worst critics score of the shows run at 55%.

Before the fourth season of The Mandalorian was morphed into a movie, it was reported by MakingStarWars last year that Boba Fett was due to appear in the fourth season of the hit series and that a cockpit set for Fett’s Slave 1 was being constructed.
Update @ 11:58pm on August 20th, 2024:
Since the publishing of this article, a video from the aforementioned FanExpo event has surfaced where Temuera Morrison confirms that Boba Fett was set to return in the fourth season of The Mandalorian, as MakingStarWars reported, before the season was turned into The Mandalorian and Grogu movie.
Continuation of the original article
It’s possible that Morrison is telling the truth and that within the last year, Lucasfilm, when turning The Mandalorian into a theatrical release, re-assessed the position of the Boba Fett character and have decided to leave the character ‘on the shelf.’ However, how many times have Star Wars and Marvel actors fibbed about appearing in a film or series? I’m not saying that Morrison is telling porkies, but that we shouldn’t rule it out.
Fans speculated recently that Boba Fett would appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu as Morrison had to cancel some convention appearances due to scheduling conflicts. The cancellations occurring as The Mandalorian and Grogu is in production sent some fans minds racing that the ruler with respect could appear in the next Star Wars theatrical release.
Elsewhere, Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), played coy when asked if she’ll be appearing in The Mandalorian and Grogu, “If I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. And if I did tell you, they’d probably kill me.”
The Mandalorian and Grogu is due to release on May 22nd, 2026.
