Carl Weathers confirms season three of The Mandalorian begins filming next month

After much speculation as to when the third season of The Mandalorian will begin production, Greef Karga himself has confirmed they’ll begin filming next month.

During an appearance at Steel City Con, Carl Weathers took to the stage to talk about his career and when discussing The Mandalorian, he revealed that the third season begins next month and that Greef Karga will be returning and Carl will be directing an episode once again.

Weathers said, “We’re gonna start a new season of The Mandalorian in the next month. Yeah and I get to be in front of the camera again and I get to direct again. So I hope you all stay on the look out for it, watch it, support it please because I’m not just proud of my work, but I’m proud of the show and to be part of it.”

Just yesterday I mentioned that at the train yard location in California, which is used for outside shots of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, they’ve started building new sets and didn’t seem to be in too much of a rush leading me to believe that it wasn’t for Kenobi as the production was winding down, but instead for The Mandalorian.

Weathers confirming a rough starting window also gives us a rough idea as to when we can expect to see the third season on our screens. Typically The Mandalorian releases 11-13 months after principal photography begins. The first season began filming in October 2018 and wrapped in February 2019. The second began filming in November 2019 and wrapped in March 2020. Season one debuted in November 2019 and the second season in October 2020. Using this logic we should expect the third season in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor are both more than likely releasing ahead of the third season. Disney have a stacked 2022 with three confirmed Star Wars series (Andor, Kenobi, The Bad Batch) and are also set to release four Marvel Studios series in the form of Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Moonknight and Secret Invasion. It might be time to change up the format, but Disney have actively been avoiding the Star Wars and Marvel series overlapping to stretch out their content and to keep the consumer subscribed for longer.

It’s great to hear production is about to begin on The Mandalorian and fingers crossed the production isn’t hit by anymore delays.
