Character names of most of the Star Wars: Skeleton Crew leads revealed

We might be just under a year away from Skeleton Crew debuting on our screens, but that hasn’t stopped details regarding the names of the leading characters making their way online.

Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

We’ll begin with what’s visually the most interesting character of the bunch and most likely to find online traction once a trailer and the series is released. Last week I reported that the Ortolan child, the Max Rebo kid, played by Robert Timothy Smith is named Neel. Neel had the least amount of screen time in Skeleton Crew trailer that was shown during Star Wars Celebration in April, and that trailer is yet to be released online, but I’m sure he’s going to be the character that stirs up the most buzz given his appearance.

Next up we have the lead of the group of children, Whim. The Whim name was revealed by MakingStarWars at the end of last week following my Neel report and is played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers. As showcased in the trailer from Celebration, Whim is the lead child actor in the series and is the character who’s most seeking adventure.

MakingStarWars added this week that he’s heard one of female child actors is named Kaybee. MSW was unsure of the spelling, but spelled the name as he heard it pronounced. It’s unknown which actress is playing Kaybee, Kyriana Kratter or Ryan Keira Armstrong. MSW thinks it’s Kratter, but is unsure. Kratter’s character visually fits more with the Kaybee name as she’s sporting white hair and Cyclops from X-Men type of visor. If Kratter plays Kaybee, then it leaves us with just Armstrong’s character whose name we don’t know when it comes to the group of children leading Skeleton Crew.

Lastly we have SM-33, a droid that looks similar to the KX security droid aka KS2O. This information once again comes from MakingStarWars who added that the droids face plate is cracked and broken which gives the appearance of a skull. We don’t know how much of a role the droid will play in the series, but he was spotted in one shot of the Skeleton Crew trailer that debuted at Star Wars Celebration in April. SM-33 stood alongside Whim, Neel and Kaybee as the doors to their commandeered ship opened.

Unfortunately neither myself or MakingStarWars have heard the names of the adults in the series played by Jude Law, Kerry Condon and Tunde Adebimpe. Confirm and Adebimpe appear to parents of at least one member of the Skeleton Crew, whereas Law joins the kids on their journey after freeing them from a jail cell. Jude Law’s character, who appears to be force sensitive, is the character with the most intrigue and mystery surrounding it, and I’m sure fans would love to learn more about the character. If I learn any details I’ll be sure to share it here.

Additional details shared by MakingStarWars earlier this week regarding Skeleton Crew included that the group will use BMX inspired Speeder Bikes which have baskets and steamers on them and that the group will also use walkie talkie’s – hammering home the 80’s Amblin vibe that the series was inspired by. I got a video of the Whim character shooting a scene on a Speeder Bike last year which you can watch below.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is expected to release later in 2024 as I exclusively reported here. You can read a description of the Skeleton Crew trailer shown at Star Wars Celebration below.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew trailer description

The trailer begins with a group of school kids in class being taught by a droid. We see Whim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), who looks to be the lead of the group of kids as he has the most screen time in the trailer, seemingly bored with his life, looking longingly in his class room and seeking adventure. As the trailer progresses we hear voiceovers from the various kids discussing going on an adventure, as we see shots of some of the kids (can’t make out who) riding Speeder Bikes through a forest at night. An Ortolan child (Neel) is seen opening up a garage door at dusk, along with quick glimpses of the characters played by Ryan Keira Armstrong and Kyriana Kratter, the latter of which is sporting a visor of some kind. They take their bikes at the dead of night and venture out into the unknown full of glee.

The next morning, the father of at least one of the children, played by Tunde Abebimpe, calls out for the kids and realises the children have gone missing as we see the group of children discover a ship and take it off world. The Lucasfilm logo appears as we hear the children call out for their father. The trailer intercuts with shots of the parents played by the aforementioned Abebimpe and Kerry Condon, trying to find their children in various ways, as Condon’s character stresses that something is very wrong. We see glimpses of the kids flying in their commandeered space ship through the galaxy and the group running through a market of some kind.

We see shots of the pirate Vane, from The Mandalorian, picking up a blaster at a bar and enter a ship, perhaps the ones the kids are one, along with other pirates. We get a hologram of Kerry Condon’s character asking the kids to return home as they watch on. As the trailer races towards its end, we see the pirates opening fire, the children playing with a friendly droid, a skeleton on a ship, along with worried shots of the children’s parents.

The final shots of the trailer shows the kids seemingly in a jail cell of some sort, where they meet Jude Law, who is donned in Jedi robes, and uses the force to lift a key and unlock them from their cell. The Skeleton Crew title card appears and is quickly followed by flashes of Jude Law piloting the children’s ship, x-wings, pirates firing blasters on a ship and Jude Law in new clothes including a deep v-neck baby blue shirt and a leather jacket as he walks away from the children’s ship.

Skeleton Crew was created by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) and Christopher Ford (Chaos Walking) and was inspired by eighties Amblin movies such as The Goonies. The series stars Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers (#BlackAF), Kyriana Kratter (Bunk’d), Ryan Keira Armstrong (Firestarter), Robert Timothy Smith (Mythic Quest), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Tunde Adebimpe (Marriage Story).

Being passionate about Star Wars led to the beginning of Bespin Bulletin in 2019. The goal was to create a publication for well-sourced information and add insights not found elsewhere for fans. So far, many exclusive stories have been published by Bespin. This has paved a long, reputable track record. Large outlets such as IGN have sourced the Bulletin's reporting.
