Great Scott! Christopher Lloyd has been cast as a guest star in the third season of The Mandalorian in an undisclosed role according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lloyd is without question best known for his iconic portrayal of Doc Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, as well as starring in Clue, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and The Addams Family. In more recent years, Lloyd, has appeared in lesser known films recently and as a guest star on big name television series including The Big Bang Theory and NCIS. Most recently Lloyd starred in the action film Nobody alongside Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) from the John Wick creators, and in the George Clooney directed The Tender Bar alongside Ben Affleck (The Town).
The Mandalorian season three is currently still filming in California, but is expected to wrap up sometime this month ahead of the spin-off series, Ahsoka, starting production in late April. The third season began filming in late September, and doesn’t have a release window currently, but it’s expected to release at the tail end of this year.
Recently the series has been filming scenes set on Mandalore, of which you can read details of here and here. One of the scenes filmed included a bunch of Mandalorian’s inside the mines of Mandalore to perform a ceremony, and it was noted that it featured an older white man, and an older dark skinned man, both heads of opposing clans who reluctantly come together. The addition of Lloyd does make me wonder if he is playing the older gentlemen mentioned.
