Confusion and uncertainty surrounding Rangers of the New Republic

Confusion and uncertainty around Rangers of the New Republic as trades mention the series following The Book of Boba Fett announcement.

Back in December 2020, Kathleen Kennedy announced two spin-off series of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka starring Rosario Dawson and Rangers of the New Republic. The two series were being produced by The Mandalorian duo, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni with the former writing Rangers and the latter writing Ahsoka. At the time it was was rumoured that The Mandalorian star Gina Carano as Cara Dune was set to lead the series, which was later backed up by the trades. However in February 2021, Carano was fired from Lucasfilm and uncertainty grew around the upcoming Rangers series.

In May 2021, Variety revealed that Rangers of the New Republic was not in active development anymore and that was the last we had heard on the series. However today, THR revealed that Lucasfilm and Disney are currently planning to release eleven Star Wars series within the next several years and mentioned Ahsoka and Rangers as projects in the works. Variety also briefly mentioned Rangers when covering today’s Boba Fett news, reiterating what they’d previously reported, Rangers is no longer in active development.

As for the eleven Star Wars projects, it’s unclear if they are all live-action or if THR are including animated series like The Bad Batch and Visions. Currently we know of eight live-action TV series (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Acolyte, Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic and Lando) and one officially confirmed animated series, The Bad Batch season two.
