Daisy Ridley tells fans that Star Wars: New Jedi Order is evolving and that there’ll be an update soon

It feels like every few months we get the same sort of quote from Daisy Ridley around the anticipated Star Wars: New Jedi Order (working title). Ridley will be out and about promoting a new flick and inevitably is asked about her upcoming Star Wars effort to which she usually responds telling those who ask she’s excited, she’ll read a script soon etc. and that’s fine, she’s doing exactly what she’s supposed to do – it is not Ridley’s fault that New Jedi Order has felt in a limbo state for some time.

During a screening of her upcoming movie Magpie hosted by Collider, Daisy Ridley shared a brief update on the New Jedi Order film which is being written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), Ridley told those in attendance, “Things are evolving. I continue to be very excited. There will be an update soon.”

The last time Ridley spoke on the upcoming Star Wars flick was in July during an appearance on the Smartless podcast, when she told the hosts that the movie “might” begin shooting in 2025 and that she had still not read a script – 15 months after she was announced to be starring in the movie. In May of this year she told Collider that she had not read a script for New Jedi Order but that was “imminently about to change” and the month before she told Empire she’d read a script in May.

In June of this year, I reported that New Jedi Order was no longer due to film in 2024. At the time of my reporting, other outlets and individuals were claiming that the film was due to begin filming in September of this year, which I believed to untrue or at the very least outdated information. At the time I added that script was still being done on the script and it was the script that was delaying the production. Since my report, months later, other outlets and individuals have now claimed the same thing. At this moment I have no update to share with you on New Jedi Order, though I wish I did. I wish I could share some positive news with my readers.

If, and it’s a big if, we take Ridley’s words that we’ll get an update soon then the earliest time I could see an update coming is during D23 Brazil, which runs from November 8th to 10th, and yes, Lucasfilm is expected to have a presence. I’ve keeping my expectations extremely low, only expecting Lucasfilm to push their next live-action series, Skeleton Crew, as it’s due to release on December 3rd on Disney+. Outside of Skeleton Crew, maybe Lucasfilm would show a teaser just for those in attendance for the second season of Andor just as they did at D23 this year and Star Wars Celebration last. There’s a chance we get an update on The Mandalorian and Grogu, something small along the lines that filming has wrapped and perhaps they’ll show those in attendance the teaser they showed the crowd at D23 this Summer.

Anyway, I’m keeping my expectations low for D23 Brazil and for this update that Daisy Ridley has revealed fans will be getting soon for New Jedi Order, we’ve been burned too many times when it comes to that flick. Hopefully we do get some positive news on the project sooner rather than later.
