Dave Filoni And Jon Favreau To Discuss The Future Of Star Wars The Mandalorian Next Week

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will be having an important meeting next week. Ahead of Star Wars The Mandalorian and Grogu blasting into theatres this month, the creative duo will be looking far, far ahead.

In a roundtable discussion with Jon Favreau and attended by MeriStation, the film’s director and writer told press he’s going to be discussing the future of his characters such as The Mandalorian next week. It may also involve decided what he does next. Favreau and newly appointed Lucasfilm president and co-writer and director on the new film Dave Filoni will sit down to talk next week. This will follow Star Wars Day.

“I’m busy promoting this [The Mandalorian and Grogu], he’s busy working on Ahsoka [Season 2], and I’ll see him when we get together next week, back in the States. Then we’ll sit down and talk .”

Favreau was honest saying he doesn’t know what the future holds for these characters he helped create. “I care a lot about these characters and about Star Wars. We’ll see what happens next.” It has been his life for the best part of a decade and would be tough to leave even if he wants a new challenge.

“I thought we were going to do a fourth season, but that wasn’t on the menu: the next thing was a movie. After the strike, after the hiatus, we needed ‘Star Wars’ in theaters and we explored whether those characters were the right fit. I was excited, I had a great time making it, now Starfighter is coming and we also have Dave Filoni with great story arcs.”

Note: Favreau’s quotes have been machine translated.

Back in February, Favreau seemed to hint at leaving Star Wars for greener pastures after an almost decade-long stint at the helm of The Mandalorian. That was long before the press tour and marketing kicking off which he has been the main person in all of that recently.

It sounds as if things are still undecided whether the writer/director will opt to do at least one more Star Wars project or move on. We’ll see what the reviews and box office looks like for the film when it releases on May 22nd in cinemas worldwide.

This week, we learned the pair held a meeting with Gina Carano at the start of this year. Learn more about that conversation here.
