The first few weeks of the new year have been a busy one for Star Wars fans with new information about The Mandalorian and Grogu and the second season of Ahsoka arriving online every few days from various individuals. Some of those reports were ones I was intending to run and would get beaten to the punch by a couple of days or in some cases, hours. Stories such as Rotta the Hutt being in The Mandalorian and Grogu, details of Sigourney Weaver’s character, Rory McCann being cast as Baylan Skoll and Embo being a part of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
I’ve heard a lot about The Mandalorian and Grogu since the final few weeks of last year and purposely held off on letting much out about the flick due to the release being so far away, fifteen months away as I write this. However, many details have quickly found their way online. So today I’m here to share a pretty minor story, but might be one fans are interested in and that’s to share a couple more details on Rotta the Hutt who’s set to be voiced by The Bear star Jeremy Allan White.

When the news broke of White’s casting, I shared that Rotta was kind of buff in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Many found this tidbit to be odd, funny and confusing. However, there’s a reason Rotta is a buff boy and that’s because of what his job is – I’m told Rotta the Hutt is a gladiator in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Given his profession, the buff body of Rotta makes more sense and in addition, he has some scarring on his face, likely from the battles he’s been in. Like many other gladiators, Rotta has a weapon and I believe that weapon is a vibroblade/vibrosword. Rotta is a far cry from little Stinky these days.
I mentioned it in my article covering the story that Embo is a villain in The Mandalorian and Grogu that Embo is hired by the two Hutts from The Book of Boba Fett to take out Rotta, but I heard mixed things on who hires Din Djarin to capture Rotta. I wrote that I’d heard it was the New Republic and have heard that again recently from another source, so that’s what I believe happens. I don’t know if it’s Sigourney Weaver’s Colonel Bishop that hires Din Djarin or not, but that definitely seems like a possibility.
Anyway, we’re a ways off from the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu and I’m very curious to see how fans and more so the general public react to the flick with so much of the film focusing on Rotta and so many call backs to past Dave Filoni works. I’m personally not that excited about the movie and haven’t been since its announcement and being told details over the past month or so hasn’t raised my excitement at all, though I’m still hoping to be pleasantly surprised when the film releases on May 22nd, 2026.
