Detective Pikachu writers are working on a Star Wars project

Hello there! Before we continue with the article I kindly ask you to consider showing your support and appreciation for my work by tipping me via my Ko-Fi page here. Tips are quite rare around these parts, but I assure you no matter how big or small, each tip is deeply appreciated. Now, let’s get on with the news!

Writing and producing partners, Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit are reportedly working on an unannounced Star Wars project with Lucasfilm according to Deadline. Hernandez and Samit are probably best known for writing the Detective Pikachu movie which was released in 2019 along with 2021’s The Addams Family 2. In addition to those film projects, the duo also contribute to a lot of television productions including Central Park, The Tick and most recently, Koala Man, to name a few.

Deadline shared no additional details on the mysterious Henrnandez and Samit project, but just last week it was reported by Production Weekly that another Star Wars live-action series for Disney+ was in development and was being executive produced by The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. The series is codenamed Ghost Track 17, a reference to hidden tracks on musicians albums, and more than likely a reference specifically to the hidden seventeenth track on The Beatles album, Abbey Road, named Her Majesty. Given the involvement of Favreau and Filoni, it’s more than likely the Ghost Track series is related to the ‘MandoVerse’ which features The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. However it remains to be seen if the Hernandez-Samit project and Ghost Track 17 are one in the same.

The work of Hernandez and Samit doesn’t excite me personally and coincidently I actually binge watched Koala Man, their latest release, earlier today and unfortunately I was not impressed by the series. Perhaps when more details around the project arise my interest will perk, but for now I’m keeping my expectations low. Maybe the duo are the writers of the mysterious Ghost Track series, and if so then I’m sure we’ll learn more about the project over the coming months, but it’s also worth noting the pair often work on animated series so I wouldn’t just assume their project is live-action. It’s also worth remembering that plenty of projects get developed at Lucasfilm and never see the light of day if they’re formally announced or not – things get quietly developed all the time and fade away.
