DICE’s next game won’t be Star Wars: Battlefront III

Despite tedious terribly sourced rumours over the years, after completing work on the upcoming Battlefield 2042, DICE will not be working on a third entry in EA’s Battlefront series.

Ever since the untimely cancellation of future content for Star Wars: Battlefront II in the Spring of 2020, the internet has been plagued by terribly sourced rumours and clickbait YouTube videos getting fans hopes up for a third entry in EA’s Battlefront reboot series, despite me attempting to shut down each rumour that popped up on Twitter.

Recently reliable video game insider Tom Henderson tweeted that teams working on Battlefield 2042, due for release on November 19th, have started working on their next projects. Criterion, who previously helped work on Battlefront II’s star fighter modes and gameplay are set to work on a new entry in the Need for Speed franchise and DICE themselves will be working on another Battlefield title and NOT Battlefront III.

The only Star Wars title publicly known that EA are working on is the next entry in their Star Wars: Jedi franchise which I reported very early last year, pre-pandemic, was aiming for a Fall 2022 release, but it is unclear if that is still the case. EA are also set to reveal their plans for video games in a galaxy far, far away at Star Wars Celebration next year.

The future of Star Wars video games is looking bright. Currently we know of four officially announced video games releasing over the next three to four years – LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, Knights of the Old Republic Remake and the untitled open-world Ubisoft game. Already four titles announced for the coming years, which is the same amount of video games EA has released during their eight years of exclusivity of the Star Wars license. There’s also a rumoured title in development by Detroit Become Human creators, Quantic Dream.

Being passionate about Star Wars led to the beginning of Bespin Bulletin in 2019. The goal was to create a publication for well-sourced information and add insights not found elsewhere for fans. So far, many exclusive stories have been published by Bespin. This has paved a long, reputable track record. Large outlets such as IGN have sourced the Bulletin's reporting.
