EXCLUSIVE: Details on a Star Wars: Andor season 2 scene filmed at the Barbican Estate, London

Hello there! Before we continue with the article I kindly ask you to consider showing your support and appreciation for my work by tipping me via my Ko-Fi page here. Tips are quite rare around these parts, but I assure you no matter how big or small, each tip is deeply appreciated. Now, let’s get on with the news!

Last week eagle eyed fans noticed EE signs (E&E Industries being the projection company behind Andor) being placed around the Barbican Estate, London and shortly after a little store was being constructed which sported aurebesh signage which translated to Samo’s Deli Grocery. We got some pictures from the set and details on what parts of the estate was being used as part of the shoot, and shortly after images of scenes being filmed arrived online along which contained cast members Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) and Adria Arjona (Bix Caleen) along with a group of extras.

Over the weekend I learned details on the scene being shot outside of store the production constructed and I believe that the director of this scene is seemingly an assistant director. I showed various people who got close to the set and saw scenes being directed pictures of the directors attached to season two, Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz and Alonso Ruizpalacios, along with showrunner Tony Gilroy, but none were familiar. Earlier in the week when the series was shooting scenes outside of the Lloyds Building in London with Diego Luna and Stellan Skarsgård (Luthen Rael), it was Yellowjackets director Ariel Kleiman behind the camera who is handling two blocks of three episodes this season. Now, onto the scene itself.

It begins with Cassian Andor, who’s got his hood up to keep a low profile, and Bix Caleen, who’s carrying two grey bags, walking towards Samo’s Deli Grocery store. Cassian and Bix are deep in a tense conversation before Cassian suddenly stops and grabs Bix by the arm – stopping her in her tracks. Cassian, seemingly paranoid and untrusting, begins to rifle through the bags she is carrying. Bix seems surprised and visibly upset by Cassian’s actions. After the short pause and Cassian assumably being satisfied with his search, the two link arms and carry on walking towards their location and enter Samo’s store.

Due to Cassian’s apparent paranoia, I assume he and Bix are possibly meeting a contact of some kind inside of Samo’s store, perhaps even Samo himself is the contact. Given the history between Andor and Caleen you’d assume he has trust in Bix, and why Cassian was searching for in her bags was maybe to make sure something they needed to take to the contact, perhaps credits, was there. However this is merely speculation on my behalf.

Andor season two has been filming since November and will continue to shoot up until August of this year. However fans on the series will have to wait until the latter half of next year to see the second and final season of the critically acclaimed series on their screens.
