Fallen Order sequel Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releasing in February or March 2023

Yesterday video games journalist and reliable insider, Jeff Grubb, took to his GiantBomb show, GrubbSnax, where he revealed the title to the highly anticipated sequel Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which he revealed as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and now today he’s updated us with a rough release window.

The GamesBeat journalist took to Twitter to reply to theories that Microsoft would bring a major third party title to Xbox GamesPass day-and-date due to the lack of 2022 exclusives from the Xbox. One Twitter user theorised Madden 23 or Jedi: Survivor could be day-and-date on the service, to which Grubb shot down and said “Jedi Survivor is February or March”. We’ve known Jedi: Survivor would release sometime in 2023 for a number of weeks, and that a late 2022 was initially the plan, but it could easily slip into the following year. Grubb also previously revealed one of the reasons Respawn and EA aren’t creating PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the title is because of its 2023 release date.

Recently EA themselves revealed that they plan on releasing four currently unannounced video games in addition to their annual releases by the end of March 2023. Those projects are a major IP, a partner title, a remake, and a sports title. Though Respawn and EA revealed they are working on a sequel to Fallen Order, the game hasn’t formally been announced, leading fans to speculate the partner title could be Star Wars Jedi: Survivor due to the partnership with Lucasfilm, however others have theorised that it could be a new title from Josef Fares’ Hazelight (It Takes Two, A Way Out). However now with Grubb’s claims, it seems likely the partner title is Jedi: Survivor.

Typically EA have launched their latest Star Wars title a month in advance of a big Star Wars live-action release. Previously we saw EA’s Battlefront reboot launch in November 2015 ahead of The Force Awakens, Battlefront II release in November 2017 ahead of The Last Jedi, Fallen Order launch a a month before The Rise of Skywalker in November 2019, and finally Star Wars: Squadrons which released a few weeks ahead of the second season of The Mandalorian in October 2020. Perhaps the release window of Jedi: Survivor could lend us some insight as to when we should expect a live-action Star Wars project. The third season of The Mandalorian is expected to release later this year, which leaves us with Ahsoka, a series that began filming earlier this week.
