Far Cry 6 writer to pen Ubisoft’s Star Wars game according to Giancarlo Esposito

During a recent panel at Fan Expo Canada 2022, Moff Gideon himself, the man who loves to talk, Giancarlo Esposito spoke about his recent work on The Mandalorian and last years Far Cry 6 video game in which Esposito played the lead villain. However the most interesting tidbit came from a fan question, would Esposito like to be in a Star Wars video game? Giancarlo enthusiastically responded to the question with the following:

“Oh my goodness. Are you kidding me? It would be a wonderful thing. I’m hearing that Navid out of Montreal, the writer of Far Cry, is now moving on to Star Wars and doing something for a Swedish company which I know very little about it, but I’m about to call him.”

The Navid that Esposito is referring to is Navid Khavari who previously wrote Far Cry 6, the video game that Giancarlo appeared in last year. Khavari has primarily worked on Ubisoft titles, which should come as no surprise, which include Far Cry 6, Far Cry 5, Far Cry: Primal, Far Cry 4 and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Esposito mentions that Khavari is moving to a Swedish studio to work on the Star Wars game, and it’s previously been reported that Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment are the studio working on an open-world Star Wars title, and said studio is based in Malmö, Sweden.

Massive Entertainment are probably best known for The Division and The Division 2 video games, the former of which was incredibly successful becoming Ubisoft’s best selling video game and at the time held the record for biggest first-week sales of a new video game franchise with $330M made from sales within the first week. Massive have also had experience with two other successful Ubisoft franchises in the form of Far Cry 3 and Just Dance Now. Currently Massive Entertainment are working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was due to release this December, but was recently delayed to an unknown time within the next fiscal year which runs from April 2023 to the end of March 2024. The delay of Avatar likely means an internal delay for their untitled Star Wars project, but the title is probably years away anyway with my personal guess and it’s just a guess of 2025 or 2026.
