Star Wars creator George Lucas has been cast in the Minions & Monsters movie. In a surprising reveal, the maker himself has lent his voice to Universal Pictures and Illumination’s latest animated adventure.
Minions & Monsters releases this July and the marketing and press for the film is getting underway. Unlike The Mandalorian and Grogu, this film is expected to be another smash hit at the box office for Illumination
According to a new article by ABC about the animation studio, George Lucas has provided voice work for Minions & Monsters. This follows Martin Scorsese voicing Hugo Durant in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
“But with its abiding affection for moviemaking, “Minions & Monsters” could find wider industry support. Even George Lucas lends his voice to the film.”
This might seem surprising to Star Wars fans especially as Lucas has not been involved with any on-screen or voice role for nearly 20 years. However, it makes more sense than you might think. Minions & Monsters is a prequel to the Minions and Despicable Me films released so far.
It follows the Minions on a quest to make a monster film in OId Hollywood. Sounds like George playing himself or a director actually makes sense here. Will there be a satirical version of Star Wars in the film? The prospect is fun to think about. How George’s role came about, we don’t know. Hopefully we get that story one day. We’re sure whatever it is, George’s cameo will be a good one.
