Hello there! I’m sure you’re eager to get into the Skeleton Crew news, but before we continue I kindly ask you to consider showing your support for my work by tipping me via my Ko-Fi page here. Tips are quite rare around these parts, but I assure you no matter how big or small, each tip is deeply appreciated. Now, let’s talk about Skeleton Crew!

Sean Porter, the director of photography on the critically acclaimed and academy award winning Green Book, which stars Mahershala Ali, Vigo Mortensen and Linda Cardellini, has boarded Skeleton Crew, a live-action Star Wars series created by Spider-Man: No Way Home director, Jon Watts, and Chaos Walking writer, Christopher Ford, if the cinematographers updated IMDb profile can be believed.

As mentioned, Porter was the cinematographer of the Oscar award winning Green Book, a film directed by Peter Farrelly. Porter’s most recent work saw him re-teaming with Farrelly for last years Apple TV+ flick, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, which starred Zac Efron, Russell Crowe and Bill Murray. Porter has also worked with Skeleton Crew director, Jon Watts, in the past as he teamed up with Watts on the FX series, The Old Man which starred Jeff Bridges. It’s likely The Old Man connection is what spurred the re-teaming of Watts and Porter for another series. Porter’s other last work includes the Scarlet Johansson led Rough Night, 20th Century Woman starring Annette Bening and Elle Fanning, along with 2016’s The Trust starring Nicolas Cage.

Porter will supposedly helming four episodes of Skeleton Crew’s eight, with the other four parts falling to David Klein, who should be a familiar name to Star Wars fans. Klein helmed one episode of The Mandalorian season two, The Tragedy, and is said to have worked on four episodes of The Mandalorian season three and Klein was also a cinematographer for five episodes of The Book of Boba Fett. As for his work outside of Star Wars, Klein worked as a cinematographer on series such as Deadwood, True Blood and Homeland, and worked on films including Clerks II and Cop Out.

Though it doesn’t have a fixed release date, Disney and Lucasfilm are touting Skeleton Crew to release sometime this year. The series, led by Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore), will follow a group of kids lost in the galaxy attempting to find their way back home. The series was influenced by eighties Amblin movies, films released by the production company within that decade include The Goonies, E.T., Back to the Future, Batteries Not Included, Gremlins and The Land Before Time to name a few. The series has also been compared to the smash hit Netflix series, Stranger Things.
