There is a belief that an “incredible” Star Wars game following Darth Maul could be created according to the character’s actor Sam Witwer.
It has been nearly 15 years since the Darth Maul game titled Battle of the Sith Lords was cancelled. For those unaware, developers of The Force Unleashed II’s Wii port, Red Fly Studio, were cooking up a single player experience where gamers would take on the role of maul. The game was in development for over a year until Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney and the former canned it.
In a new interview for the Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord press tour, the voice of Darth Maul Sam Witwer was asked about his thoughts on a new Darth Maul game. DiscussingFilm asked to actor if he would ever want to explore more within the interactive medium.
He responded by saying “I’ve become convinced we could do an incredible story.” Interestingly, Witwer says “If you had asked me maybe 2 years ago..’I don’t know’, yeah, probably I would have said yes anyway. But now I’m like ‘Oh I know what we can do with him.’ For sure.”

Witwer is a gamer himself and has voiced Maul and other key characters in video games such as Star Wars Battlefront 2. We’ve even seen him express just how much he loves DICE’s game when live streaming himself playing it.
How likely is a Maul game? Well, Sam is close with newly appointed Lucasfilm co-president Dave Filoni and the new head of Star Wars for sure loves Maul. He just gave him his own show and a second season is now confirmed. Plus, Disney’s new CEO Josh D’Amaro is big on gaming so maybe we’ll see more ideas like this one come to fruition in several years.
The real question is will a studio want to do it? At this moment, game studios are extremely hesitant making Star Wars games during what is a torrid time for the video games industry and world economy. Lots of fans saw what Sam said and took to social media to voice their support but that is fairly meaningless when money is the only thing businesses care about.
