Earlier today Kathleen Kennedy spoke with Deadline about a variety of topics, including her possibly stepping down and somebody succeeding her as Lucasfilm president, I already covered her comments on the topic here if you want to read about that. However, Kennedy also spoke about some Star Wars projects that are in the works at Lucasfilm with one of them being a new trilogy of movies from Simon Kinberg.
In November it was reported by various Hollywood trades that Simon Kinberg was working on a new trilogy of live-action Star Wars movies. Reports at the time were conflicting, some were reporting that Kinberg’s trilogy was being planned to be episodes ten, eleven and twelve, but others claimed it was not episodes ten through twelve, but that characters from the sequel trilogy could appear. Jeff Sneider claimed that Kinberg’s trilogy was planned to be episodes ten through twelve, but that Lucasfilm did not want to publicly commit to that reveal due to how many projects have failed to development or got stuck in development Hell in recent years at the studio.

Kinberg himself confirmed the reports at the time that he was working on a new trilogy of Star Wars films, but Lucasfilm themselves had not commented on the matter, that was until today when Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Kinberg was working on the script for the first of the three films and that she was expecting a draft to be turned in this June.
“We’re absolutely rolling fast and furiously. That has gone exceptionally well, and he’s literally going to script as we speak. We’ll see something probably around June. Simon, if you remember, he did some work with us years ago with the animated show [Star Wars: Rebels], which was a really wonderful collaborative experience. And he then got very, very busy with X-Men and then recently became available again, and he segued into this space beautifully. We’re really excited about where that’s headed.” – Kathleen Kennedy
Kennedy was then asked if Kinberg’s trilogy was an off-shoot story or if it was a continuation of the core Star Wars story which has previously been broken up into three trilogies. Kennedy didn’t confirm if Kinberg’s trilogy is episodes ten, eleven and twelve, but did share that it’s the “next iteration” of the core Star Wars story and one that would move fans and the universe into the future.
“This is the next iteration, the new saga that moves us into the future.” – Kathleen Kennedy
