Back in December 2020 Disney held their Disney Investors Day which saw Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, announce a slew of Star Wars projects, one of them being a series titled Lando which focuses on the smooth talker of the same name, but since then news on the series has been very quiet.
Kennedy announced that Dear White People creator Justin Simien would write the series, but at the time Kennedy didn’t confirm if Donald Glover who played Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story would reprise the role, though that was the expectation from fans. Back in March Glover appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and was asked about the Lando series to which he responded, “Am I? Just telling all my business” before following up saying, “No, yeah. I have a lot of things. I like to blossom then go away. Right now is definitely the start of a another one of those. I have like a ton of stuff I’ve been working on, but I just want it all to come out at the same time so I feel like that’s what’s important.”
Glover didn’t deny his involvement which further added credence to him returning to the role for the series, but he did mention having to work on a lot projects, and it appears that Glover’s hectic schedule is the reason there’s been no updates on Lando since it’s initial announcement.
Speaking with CinemaBlend, Kathleen Kennedy was asked about the series to which she responded, “You need to ask Donald. He’s the one that holds all the cards here. But there’s no movement. I will say that honestly. But it’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy. He’s got another series, and I think one other thing, and then he’ll come our way. So patiently waiting.”
Currently Glover is directing a TV series referred to as Hive for Amazon Prime Video, and is slated to star in the Mr and Mrs Smith series which films later this year and will also release on Prime Video. Glover has also revealed he’s working on new music and is set to go on a promotional run for the fourth and final season of his hit series Atlanta this Fall. Given Glover’s current schedule, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to film the Lando series until sometime next year at the earliest.
