Rightly or wrongly, the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, is always a topic of discussion among Star Wars fans with questions usually raised whether or not Kennedy’s tenure should continue and a slew of rumours from typically very unreliable outlets and individuals that she’s due to exit the role very soon – something that happens every few months.
Currently, Kennedy is under contract until later this year as the president of Lucasfilm following a three year extension signed in 2021 and though some fans hope that Kennedy exits the position once the contract expires, there’s others that hope and expect Kennedy to sign another extension and continue in the position. Today we have news that will likely upset the former and excite the latter.

According to reliable industry insider, Jeff Sneider of TheInseider.com, Kathleen Kennedy is expected to remain as Lucasfilm president until “at least Q2 of next year.” Q2 being the months that run from April 1st to June 30th.
During Kennedy’s time as Lucasfilm president, there has overseen the release of six theatrically released films, one of which grossed over a two billion dollars (The Force Awakens), three that made over one billion (Rogue One, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker) and two commercial disappointments (Solo, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny). In addition, Kennedy was also instrumental to the early success of Disney+, with The Mandalorian being the flagship series that launched with the streaming service and became an instant hit for the service and birthed a pop culture gem in Grogu. Kennedy has overseen the release of three seasons of The Mandalorian, and single seasons of Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Willow, most of which were a success for the streamer in one way or another, the only exceptions being The Acolyte and Willow, the latter of which cannot even be found on the service anymore.
Whether you want Kennedy to remain as Lucasfilm president or not, it seems as if Kathleen will be in the role a little while longer. I have no information on this, but my personal expectation is that Kennedy will remain in the position until at least one of the announced upcoming Star Wars films releases in theatres. The next Star Wars film due to release is The Mandalorian and Grogu which hits theatres on May 22nd, 2026 and is currently filming.
