Kevin Feige confirms that his Star Wars movie is no longer being developed

After months, if not years, of speculation, the Marvel Studios president has given a definitive answer in regards to his Star Wars film being in development or not.

Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my newly created Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

In 2019, it was reported by various trades that Marvel Studios president, and the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige, would be teaming up with Lucasfilm to develop an untitled Star Wars movie for the studio which he’d be producing. Shortly after, it was confirmed by Disney’s chief creative officer, Alan Horn, that Feige was indeed working on a Star Wars project for Lucasfilm. In the years that followed, fans received very little about the planned flick, but in more recent times, it’s been reported that the Feige flick is no longer in development, and now the man himself has confirmed as such.

The Marvel Studios head took questions at last nights premier of the latest MCU flick, The Marvels, the sequel to 2019’s billion dollar hit, Captain Marvel, though it seems the film is set to underperform if projections can be believed, marking another disappointment for Marvel Studios this year at the box office, but even more so for Disney. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feige was asked a plethora of questions pertaining to the MCU, its future and some recent reports, but as expected, the Marvel Studios president dodged various questions and played coy with some answers, but there was one that he gave a hard and definitive answer to. When asked by ET if his Star Wars movie which was announced in 2019 was still happening, Feige responded with a firm and simple, “No”, and offered no follow up or explanation as to why.

The response from Feige follows unsubstantiated rumours from unreliable outlets that he is set to take over as Lucasfilm president, replacing Kathleen Kennedy, and depart Marvel Studios after the release of the highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. It’s a rumour that’s appeared online in the past, but it’s never come from an outlet or individual with reliability or a strong enough track record to warrant me to even entertain the idea. As always, if you don’t see me cover the rumour or report, it’s because the track record of the outlet or individual is not very good or non-existent, and I only cover outlets and individuals that have a proven track record as I don’t want to mislead readers for clicks, even if we aren’t getting many these days.

The Feige produced Star Wars movie made headlines earlier this year when the Russo Brothers confirmed that they had conversations with Kevin Feige about directing his Star Wars flick. The reveal from the Russo Brothers followed comments made by Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, from Star Wars Celebration in April, where she claimed that the Kevin Feige wasn’t officially announced and that it was a story in the press and “fandom”, despite Alan Horn confirming the project was being developed. Kennedy added that there was “nothing” to the Feige project, and that the duo “never discussed an idea”, even though we know that Kevin Feige had hired Micheal Waldron (Loki) to pen the project, which he confirmed he was doing last year, and the Russo Brothers confirming they had early discussions about directing the feature.

It’s no surprise to see the Feige feature is no longer in development after months of rumours, but we have a good handful of various Star Wars films in development and the Marvel Studios president most certainly has his hands full with the MCU which is currently going through a lot behind the scenes to say the very least.
