The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland has shared a bunch of her thoughts on the series and what the team were looking to do before more seasons were cancelled of the High Republic era show. As part of a new interview, we get a good insight into where the writer/director has thinking despite the negativity online since the show premiered two years ago this month.
In the latest issue of Empire Magazine (spotted by Fantha Tracks) Headland reveals she would return to do more Acolyte action. She told the publication that “I would still want to do it! Absolutely.” The show’s initial numbers for the opening few episodes weren’t bad and higher than more liked shows. However, there was a big air of negativity and the show cost a lot of money to produce. That said, some people are checking out the show still and Headland believes “As more people discover it, I think people may want to see some form of the story come back.”
Personal Interactions
The creative goes onto say The Acolyte has had a “resurgence” in her personal life. People have been telling her how much of a fan they were of the show and remain upset over Disney’s decision to not continue the story.
“I went to a play last night, and somebody ‘I just have to tell you that I loved it.’ The guy I saw last night loved the additional lore and the fight sequences. Another woman loved the allegory for a religious experience. Somebody else really loved the way the Jedi were portrayed.”
There’s something for everyone when it comes to Star Wars and in time perception can change. Headland points to how a “particular generation” dismissed the prequels but two decades later Hayden Christensen gets to turn up at Celebration and truly be celebrated.
“The initial enthusiasm and curiosity became really bombarded. It killed the momentum.”
What Was Next?

In terms of the plans Headland and her team had for The Acolyte, there was going to be a lot of connecting points from the High Republic to the sequel era. This would deeply involve the fan favourite character Qimir, Vernestra Rwoh and the mysterious Darth Plagueis.
“We did have a lot of stuff that we wanted to explore- including tying in lore to the sequels. Getting into who exactly Manny Jacinto’s character is, his connection with Jedi Master Vernestra, his connection with Plagueis, and then his connection with other sequel-established things.”
