Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 officially kicks off today at 11am BST with probably the most exciting panel of the event, the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase, which is set to provide fans with updates on the next three Star Wars movies, with expected release dates of December 2025, 2027 and 2029. The first movie of three, which is being written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), is rumoured to have a title and brief synopsis revealed at the panel. The other two movies, set to release in 2027 and 2029, will likely be those being developed by Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder) and Shawn Levy (Free Guy).
In addition to a new film slate, we’re expected to get significant updates on The Mandalorian spin-off series Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. The former we exclusively reported two months ago will have a trailer at Celebration, which will likely debut in the room and appear online. The latter, Skeleton Crew, is expected to have a presence also, but if footage is shown, there’s a chance it’s exclusive to those in the room. Both Andor and The Acolyte are slated to appear at the panel, but it’s unknown how much or little will be revealed regarding those series, as both aren’t slated to release for another year or more.
Though it’s not a Star Wars project, we’re likely getting an update on Lucasfilm’s next theatrical release, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which is slated to release in June, so a trailer for the blockbuster is a possibility. As for new Star Wars series being announced, there’s been no serious rumblings. However, there’s been rumours of a new series being produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni with the codename Ghost Track 17 being developed, though it could be a new codename for an existing series such as The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett.
I’ll produce full articles as quick as I can for the news that’s revealed, but you can follow along with my live-blog below as we have multiple people in the room providing updates as they happen as the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase will not be streamed for fans at home.
