Lucasfilm confirm that Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 is in development

After months of speculation, Lucasfilm have officially announced that a second season of Ahsoka is currently in development.

Before we continue with news of the day, I’d just like to share that you can support my work in two ways for which I’d be extremely grateful. Firstly it’s via my Patreon page which has a two tier’s at this time – one to simply to support my work and a second which features ad-free articles. Secondly you can tip me with a simple one off payment on my Ko-Fi page or you can choose to support my work monthly on the platform. I’d truly appreciate it if you decided to support my work, but no pressure, I know things are pretty tough out here. Anyway, back to the reason you came here – the news!

The Ahsoka season one finale aired three months ago, and ever since, fans have been asking if there’ll be a second season, given how the season finale sets up some interesting plot points for its future. Since the season wrapped on Disney+, various trades and Lucasfilm themselves have just said that discussions were ongoing regarding a second season of Ahsoka, but that it had yet to be greenlit. Today however, Lucasfilm have officially announced that the second season of Ahsoka is a go and is in active development.

The news comes from Lucasfilm themselves as part of their announcement for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie. Within the announcement, it was quietly slipped in that the second season was in active development, with the various Hollywood trades later adding that the second season has been given the green light.

The Mandalorian and Grogu was confirmed to be entering production sometime this year, but there was no window for the start of filming on Ahsoka’s second season by Lucasfilm themselves or by any outlet. However, it’s likely that filming is still very far away as the series creator, Dave Filoni, is still whittling away at the script and helping produce the aforementioned Mandalorian movie, in addition to crafting his own theatrical film.

The second season of Ahsoka always felt like a no brainer and I’m surprised that it took Lucasfilm and Disney this long to confirm their intentions of a season two. The first season performed well for Disney, not to the extent of fellow Star Wars series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett or Obi-Wan Kenobi, but well nonetheless.

I wonder as to when Lucasfilm and Disney are eyeballing a release of the second season of Ahsoka and how it fits into their theatrical releases. The Mandalorian and Grogu is now leading the film slate, meaning it’ll take the previously announced release date of May 22nd, 2026. Two dates for Star Wars movies remain – December 2026 and December 2027.

Before today it was believed that the May 2026 date was being held for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey Skywalker movie, but that seems to no longer be the case. I wonder if the Rey flick simply just takes the December 2026 window or if it’ll slide to December 2027 as before todays news, Dave Filoni’s ‘MandoVerse’ crossover event film was believed to be releasing in December 2026. If Filoni’s film does get the December 2026 window, then it almost feels like an epic ‘MandoVerse’ two parter, but that’s a tight squeeze to jam in an Ahsoka season two, and you’d assume Ahsoka Tano, Dave Filoni’s most prized character, will have a part to play in his movie. If the ‘MandoVerse’ flick slips to December 2027, then there’s enough time between the two releases, eighteen months, for Ahsoka season two to comfortably release in.
