Tips are quite rare around these parts, but I assure you no matter how big or small, each tip is deeply appreciated. Now, let’s get on with the news!

We’re just under a month away until the highly anticipated third season of the hit Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, debuts on the streaming service. As anticipation and momentum swells on the run up to release, it’s been revealed that one of the staples of the series, it’s composer, will not be returning to score the upcoming third season.

According to Film Music Reporter, Ludwig Göransson, who scored the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, will not score its third season. Despite Göransson not scoring season three, themes, such as it’s iconic opening, will still be used with the composer credited. The situation is similar to that of The Book of Boba Fett, where Göransson composed the opening and closing themes of the show, and had Joseph Shirley compose the series. Following his work on Fett, Shirley will be stepping in to take over scoring duties on The Mandalorian season three.

Though not reported, it’s likely Ludwig Göransson was unavailable to score the third season of The Mandalorian due to to his commitments to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which released in November, and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer which releases this July. Göransson has also stepped away from scoring Creed III, the instalment of the Rocky spin-off series led by Michael B. Jordan, after scoring the first two films and just as Joseph Shirley is stepping in to compose the score for The Mandalorian season three, Shirley is also scoring Creed III, which just like Mando, releases next month.

Personally I’m disappointed that Göransson will not be composing The Mandalorian season three or Creed III, as I love his work on both franchises, and I found his recent work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to be stellar, and his absence will be felt. Outside of its main theme (composed by Göransson), the score found in The Book of Boba Fett failed to make an impact on me and I found the score to be fairly average, so I’m not exactly excited that Joseph Shirley is taking over both projects, but I’m hoping he delivers nonetheless.

The Mandalorian season three debuts exclusively on Disney+ March 1st.
