Legendary director Martin Scorsese has been confirmed to be cast in The Mandalorian and Grogu. His specific role has also been revealed. The news has surprised fans of his work across social media.
On Tuesday, The Mandalorian and Grogu’s official trailer was released by Lucasfilm and Disney after a few weeks of fans groaning over the poor marketing. The trailer shows lots of new footage we’ve never seen before including our first look at Embo in live-action and Pedro Pascal unmasked as Din Djarin.
However, some fans thought they heard a familiar voice during a scene that sees Mando asking for information at a food kiosk. The elderly-looking chef at the kiosk speaks to Mando before closing up shop when our hero asks for information on a Hutt. Social media was flooded with speculation that this character is voiced by Martin Scorsese given his accent.

“I can use some information.”
“Woah, for this price I’ll tell you whatever you want.”
“I’m looking for a Hutt.”
“Closed for the night. Thank you.”
The official Star Wars social media accounts confirmed this was indeed Martin Scorsese in a post a few hours after the trailer dropped. The posts were fronted by “absolute cinema”, a reference to the iconic meme involving Scorsese.
Martin Scorsese’s character is a Ardennian. This is a species we first saw in Solo: A Star Wars Story with everyone’s favourite four-armed pilot Rio Durant, a member of Beckett’s crew. The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau voiced Rio in that film. It is nice to see the Ardennians back on the big screen.
The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theatres and in IMAX on May 22nd 2026.
