More unannounced Star Wars series are in development says Kathleen Kennedy

The latest issue of Empire Magazine hit shelves yesterday and we now have another nugget regarding Star Wars TV series thanks to the Lucasfilm president.

Earlier this month Empire Magazine promised discussions on Star Wars’ future on the small screen thanks to interviews with Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy and executive creative director, Dave Filoni. So far we’ve had quotes regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic and the possibility of sequel trilogy characters in future projects.

The latest tidbit follows the discussion around Obi-Wan Kenobi, which we previously posted. Empire writes, “Despite the massive slate of Star Wars shows – plus, Kennedy wrote, more yet to be announced” Kathleen Kennedy added, “there’s a couple of other things that are in the hopper.”

Previously I believe it was said at the Disney Investors Day there was set to be ten Star Wars series in the works, at the time it included The Mandalorian season three, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Lando and Rangers of the New Republic. That brings us to eight, nine if you include The Bad Batch. Obviously since then Rangers has been shelved dropping us back down to eight and Kennedy herself said “couple of other things”. So what are these other couple of shows?

Personally I believe I know one live-action series that hasn’t been announced, but it’s very early days. Perhaps the other series could be what Kennedy meant when discussing sequel trilogy characters returning as she did say, “those are conversations that are going on with the creative team”. It’s also worth mentioning that series may be spun off of existing or upcoming series, just like how The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka are spin-offs of The Mandalorian. The series I’ve heard about being in very early development is a spin-off of another series. It’s also worth noting that Marvel Studios is also taking the approach of launching spin-off’s from series as Agatha: House of Harkness is a spin-off of WandaVision and Echo is a spin-off of Hawkeye.

I’m very excited about the future announcements, though the series I’ve heard about doesn’t exactly excite me, I’m sure there’s something up Kennedy’s sleeve that will.
