Additional details on Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau’s meeting with Gina Carano have been revealed by the martial artist. We now have a better insight as to what the meeting was like and her current relationship with Lucasfilm, Mandalorian cast members and more.
For those unaware of recent news, Carano took part in an interview where she extraordinarily revealed that new Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni and writer/director Jon Favreau spoke with her following the settlement of her lawsuit with Disney. Details were light and speculation was rife.
Carano was dismissed from her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian a few years ago. This was due to sharing posts on social media that were labelled “abhorrent and unacceptable” by Lucasfilm at the time. She went on to sue The Walt Disney Company for wrongful termination and discrimination.
Thanks to a new interview that The Hollywood Reporter conducted with Carano, there is a little more to the story than we first thought.
Lucasfilm Talks With Cara Dune
Her last interview that revealed talks took place kept a timeframe for its occurrence vague. All she said was is it followed the lawsuit settlement. That could have meant from any time between August and now. In that time a lot has changed. In this latest interview, it is revealed that this meeting took place in the late January. This means it occurred after Dave Filoni became president of Lucasfilm and began a new era of regime.
Gina Carano also admits that the conversation with the two creatives was a “Let’s touch base” kind. She goes on to say that following her firing, both Dave and Jon “were never the bad guys to me.”
“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were two people that I always respected, and we went through two seasons together, and we had a great relationship.”
The contents of the discussion will also not be disclosed says the actor. That’s includes whether there was talk of her returning to Star Wars as Cara Dune.
“I will say that for me, it was an important conversation. To Zoom, to see each other, to mend whatever, to make sure everybody was good. And everybody was good. [Jon’s] a good man.”

She also adds a bit more colour to her relationship with the Mando duo in a new interview with Evie (paywalled).
“I never had a problem with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. I thought they were always wonderful. There’s a lot of stuff I can’t even share. But those are two good human beings that I respect, and they respect me.”
On Pedro Pascal And Kathleen Kennedy
It is clear Carano still gets on well with the creatives over at Lucasfilm. Similar things can’t be said for one of her co-stars. The Mandalorian himself Pedro Pascal and Carano “don’t keep in touch” which seems obvious given some of her social media posts. She recalls to THR that Pascal was telling her before her firing to calm her critics. The pair last communicated in February 2024 when fellow cast member Carl Weathers passed away.
There was also a quick note on Kathleen Kennedy who recently exited the position of Lucasfilm president. Carano wished her the best and even hopes the producer would write a book or get a documentary to reveal what she has been through.
One half of the fan base really does not want to see her reprise her role as Cara Dune ever again meanwhile the other are almost campaigning to bring her back now the dust has settled.
“I would really like to see all of this turmoil within the Star Wars fandom kind of come to an end. It just feels like it’s a never-ending war. [The Star Wars fandom is] two extremist sides; one really tried to get me canceled, and succeeded”
