Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return to release on September 8th

The Disney+ mega hit, Obi-Wan Kenobi, wrapped up its first season back in June and since then fans have been asking for a behind the scenes documentary on the series which both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett received shortly after their respective seasons finished airing. Now two months after the season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi was released, Lucasfilm have announced, Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return.

The special will premiere on September 8th exclusively on Disney+ as part of Disney’s celebratory Disney+ day. The trailer for the series shows is behind the scenes footage on filming the series, interviews with Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, and director Deborah Chow. One part of the trailer which pulled on my heartstrings is a shot of Ewan and Hayden in lightsaber training, giving me flashbacks of the iconic Revenge of the Sith duel rehearsals.

Disney has been hyping up Disney+ day to include new releases as well as exciting announcements. Last year saw various new shows and movies announced for the streaming service, with the only Star Wars reveal being a sizzle reel for Obi-Wan Kenobi featuring concept art and comments from Ewan McGregor and Deborah Chow. Many fans were deeply disappointed last year with the lack of Star Wars announcements, only amplified by various ‘insiders’ (not me) claiming that a number of series were set to be announced which proved untrue. Currently there’s no rumours pertaining to any Star Wars announcements for Disney+ day.

Just one day after Disney+ day the D23 Expo begins which is also expected to feature big announcements for Disney’s various franchises, with Marvel Studios expected to have the biggest announcements and most exciting reveals of the day. Lucasfilm are scheduled to appear at D23, though no credible rumours are circulating as to what they could be showing off, but I personally expect the biggest reveal from the company to be the first teaser for Indiana Jones 5 along with its official title. During D23 in 2019, Ewan McGregor infamously appeared on stage alongside Kathleen Kennedy to announce the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and with rumours of a second season, i’m sure some fans will be hoping for a similar reveal.
