Just over eleven months ago, the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series debuted on Disney+ and went on to become the most watched Star Wars series to date, with critics also rating the series highly. Since the series wrapped up, rumours have swirled about a second season, with Ewan McGregor, Deborah Chow, and Kathleen Kennedy, all seemingly excited about a potential follow up in the months that followed.

Ewan McGregor is present at Star Wars Celebration this weekend, as is his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who partook in the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel, and the Ahsoka panel, which led some fans to speculate and hope that McGregor might make an appearance at the Studio Showcase to announce a second season of Kenobi, but alas he’s just there for photo opportunities it seems, as Kathleen Kennedy confirmed to Variety that a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is not being developed.

“That is not in active development. But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. The show was received so well and Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see what we showed everybody at Celebration. We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”

Personally, I’m not disappointed that we’re not getting a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, at least not anytime in the near future, not because I disliked the series (I enjoyed it), but because, just like the films, I want any follow up with Kenobi to feel special, and not rushed. Season one left us with some exciting threads to follow, Kenobi’s training with his master Qui Gon Jinn, and what happened to Moses Ingram’s Reva, and one day I’d like a follow up on those stories, but only if the script and vision is right.
