Obi-Wan Kenobi series delayed by days! Two episode premiere

Today Lucasfilm released a short video on their YouTube channel featuring Ewan McGregor to reveal a slight delay in the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi. I’ve attached the announcement video to this post, or alternatively you can read what McGregor said below.

“Hello Star Wars fans. Thank you for all your incredible support and response to Obi-Wan Kenobi. I have some important news. Our premiere date is moving just a couple of days from Wednesday to Friday, May the twenty seventh, but here’s the most exciting part…the first two episodes will premiere together. So make sure you tune in to both episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi streaming May the twenty seventh exclusively on Disney plus.”

No explanation has been given as to why Lucasfilm and Disney changed their plans ever so slightly, delaying the premiere by a mere two days. My personal speculation is, and is purely speculation, is that they plan to show the episodes, or at least the first at Celebration which kicks off on May 26th, and runs until May 29th. If Kenobi has a panel on the first day, I can see them kicking the event off in a thrilling way for those in attendance by showing them the first, or first two, episodes of the highly anticipated series. Currently no panels for Star Wars Celebration have been announced, but it is my understanding that there is a Kenobi panel.

The video doesn’t explain if the Friday release day is simply just for the first two episodes, or if Friday will be the general release day for Kenobi going forward, but clarification can be found on the StarWars.com blog, where it’s stated episodes will release every Wednesday following the premiere. The first two episodes releasing hand-in-hand does mean that Kenobi will now finish its run on either June 22nd instead of June 29th.
