Official trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte released

Star Wars day is upon us and we’re only a month away from the premiere of the next Star Wars project, the live-action series, The Acolyte. As the release inches ever closer, Disney, in celebration of Star Wars day, has unleashed the official trailer for the series, following the teaser trailer that was released back in March.

The trailer opens with Dafne Keen’s Jekci Lon mentioning that a Jedi was murdered and this seems to be the catalyst for the series. We see various Jedi including Lee Jung-Jae’s Sol, Keen’s Jecki and Charlie Barnett’s Yord Fandar seemingly investigating the crime. What Jedi was murdered? Probably Carrie-Anne Moss’ Indara who we see battle Mae, the series lead played by Amandla Stenberg. Sol asks to be the one to bring in the murderer as she was once his student. Yes, Indara is seen in other shots in the trailer, but they appear to be flashbacks, as Jung Jae’s Sol sports a much shorter hair cut during this these scenes.

The younger looking Sol can be seen giving a small child, who we assume to be a younger Mae, a lightsaber and the two can later be seen running through a forest on fire. He gifts the child a lightsaber around a group of people being led by Jodie Turner Smith’s Mother Aniseya. Aniseya can also be seen talking to a small Mae later in the trailer.

We see Sol face off against his former Padawan in the streets, as Mae continues to kill off Jedi as Yord Fandar states that the Jedi are being hunted.

Yesterday an image circulated of a banner featuring a mysterious masked villain holding a red lightsaber. The trailer debuts the villain officially, though their identity is kept secret as Sol (Lee Jung Jae) fends off the foe and protects his fellow Jedi. Recently it was revealed that Supergirl actor, David Harewood, had been cast in the series, but in an unknown role. Perhaps this mysterious villain is played by him? Who knows.

The trailer also released alongside a brand new poster which you can see below.

The trailer along with the footage attached to The Phantom Menace re-release has got me far more excited for the series than the teaser did, along with some officially released images that looked off to me, if anything the teaser and those images unfortunately damped my expectations. However, the trailer delivers on all fronts and promises an epic series soon to be delivered on Disney+.

Set during the High Republic era, The Acolyte, will follow an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.

The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (Bodies, Bodies, Bodies) as the lead, as well as Lee Jung Jae (Squid Game), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang), Charlie Bennett (Russian Doll), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Dean Charles Chapman (1917), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) and Margarita Levieva (Daredevil: Born Again).

The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4th with TWO episodes.
