More drips of Star Wars Starfighter information are being shared by the leading man Ryan Gosling. During his press tour for the highly acclaimed Project Hail Mary, the renowned actor and the star of next year’s Star Wars big screen adventure has been busy discussing the film. Everyone wants to know about new Star Wars and he’s successfully dodging spoiler questions whilst also dropping some tidbits.
From being quizzed on Tom Cruise filming Starfighter to working with the “perfect” director, all of Gosling’s comments will raise some excitement levels ahead of next year. Let’s first take a look at what Ryan said when he sat down with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
As we know, one of the more famous cast members of Star Wars Starfighter is the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. Gosling as worked with the Brit in the past and was really excited to do Star Wars with him. He told Horowitz that he is a “Huge Matt Smith fan” and was “Just so over the moon to have him on Star Wars. It just was like I knew we were in great hands.”

Tom Cruise Working On Star Wars
The host also brought up the recently known story of Tom Cruise filming a Lightsaber action scene in Star Wars Starfighter. He asking Gosling to share what it is like when Tom Cruise directs you in a Star Wars film; something that has never happened before. Unfortunately for the Canadian actor, he missed out and had to laugh off the missed opportunity:
“I wasn’t there. It’s the one day I’m not there. I worked on that movie the whole time. I get one day off. Shawn sends me a picture of him and Tom Cruise and Flynn (Gosling’s co-star). They’re like in the mud like I was like, “What?” And they were like, Yeah, Tom Cruise flew his helicopter onto set. They were just shooting and they heard a helicopter. They had to cut and it was Tom Cruise. He lands in the middle of set. He takes a camera and he just starts shooting the action scene.
There’s like a shot of him in the mud with Flynn shooting Flynn. And this is Flynn’s first. Anyway, I mean, it’s not his first film, but it’s like one of his films. It was an incredible moment. And I don’t know why he waited for the one day I wasn’t there. I’m going to hope that was an accident.”
It’s interesting to find out that Gosling was not involved in this scene. It is possible his stunt double was used for this moment though so it does not rule out his character’s involvement. However, that is just speculation. Additionally, this confirms his young co-star will be involved in this Lightsaber duel which is a big deal.
Trying To Avoid Saying More Spoilers
Ryan has also been praising Starfighter’s director Shawn Levy on this press tour. In an episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, the actor was of course once again asked about Star Wars. He went onto say “(Shawn Levy) such a perfect director for this. He just completely got the tone. It was crazy. It was crazy to to be working on a Star Wars film.” Gosling added that “It’s not part of the the the timeline of the other Star Wars films. It takes place in its own timeline and it’s all original characters.”
Furthermore, in a red carpet interview at the Project Hail Mary premiere Gosling was asked by Variety if there will be practical puppets in Star Wars Starfighter. He did confirm “yes” but could not say any more without getting in trouble he joked.
Earlier this week, our lead for Starfighter shared his own personal Star Wars story and avoided confirming his use of a Lightsaber. Learn more here.
